Many of the icons present St. Joseph as a handsome young man, but actually, according to the holy tradition, he was old. He took St. Mary when he was 90 years old and he had this journey to Egypt in his nineties, so he was always an old man and also he never married in his life. Another important fact, you may not know about Christmas, that the kings who came from the East to celebrate the birth of our King, our Lord Jesus, never visited the Lord Christ at the minute of His birth. Actually, they had seen Him one year or more after His birth. That’s why they did not have the same environment like the shepherds when they visited Jesus at the same minute of His birth, on the same day of His birth. Another important fact, you may not know that Bethlehem, the place in which the Lord was born, is close to Jerusalem, but Nazareth where He spent His childhood was very distant from Jerusalem. It’s in the Galilee part, in the northern part of Palestine. So, although He was born in Bethlehem, He was brought up in Nazareth of Galilei.
